L-3 Communications Infrared Products to discuss the newest thermal imaging applications at SPIE Defense and Security Symposium 2005
March 29, 2005

DALLAS – March 29, 2005 – In two separate presentations, Charles Hanson, Principal Fellow and Director of Technology, and Glen Francisco, Field Applications Engineer for L-3 Communications Infrared Products, will discuss advances in thermal imaging as applicable to law enforcement, homeland security and general surveillance at the SPIE Defense and Security Symposium 2005 in Orlando, Fla.

Hanson’s presentation, set for 11:40 a.m., Thursday, March 31st, will highlight compact, rugged and intuitive thermal imaging cameras based on amorphous silicon microbolometer technology designed for the extreme needs of the commercial law enforcement and military markets. On Thursday, March 31st, at 2:00 p.m., Francisco reviews his paper on the synergy from combining day, night and all-weather infrared sensors to automated intrusion detection software to automatically detect unauthorized activity at high risk private, public and government facilities.

“Thermal imaging was originally designed for the military more than 20 years ago,” said L-3 Communications Infrared Products President Chris Bade. “It isn’t a stretch for L-3’s infrared technology to find a niche in the defense and security sectors. SPIE gives us a great opportunity to showcase the evolution of our cameras to benefit sensitive sectors like homeland defense.”

The conference brings together more than 350 exhibitors and 5,200 engineers, military personnel, technical managers, and scientists, to reveal the latest trends and commercial developments in detectors, sensors, cameras and imaging equipment.

Hanson has more than 35 years of experience in infrared technology and systems development and holds more than 40 patents. Francisco has more than 25 years of experience in defense electronics, including L-3 Communications Infrared Products, Raytheon Commercial Infrared, Lockheed Martin and Boeing McDonnell.

L-3 Communications Infrared Products, based in Dallas, designs, manufactures and sells a wide range of thermal imaging products and solutions serving the security, fire and rescue, public safety, law enforcement, transportation, industrial, utilities and Homeland Security markets.
